Microscopic Bearing Behavior of Horizontally Loaded Vertical Plate Anchors in Sandy Soil

چکیده

Vertical plate anchors are an effective technique to enhance the stability of various structures, such as retaining walls and sheet piles. More research has been devoted their bearing capacity macroscopically affecting parameters, while less can be found on microscopic behavior. In this paper, behavior vertical subjected a horizontal pullout load in sandy soil was investigated with particle flow code (PFC) based model test results. Results show that larger-sized anchor plates withstand greater pressure affect broader range during process. The not behind is pressed, front increases increasing size. close suffers larger far away from affected, redistributed more stable state process anchor. particles long axis distributed direction most stable, those unstable.

A Study on Load Capacity of Horizontal and Inclined Plate Anchors in Sandy Soils

Foundations of structures which are subjected to uplift loading require anchoring systems to resist pullout loads. Such anchors can be broadly classified as gravity anchors, pile anchors and plate anchors. Plate anchors can be circular, square or strip in shape. The loading applied on plate anchors can be vertical, inclined or horizontal depending on the anchor orientation. In this study, vario...

Behavior of Vertical Boundary Elements in Steel Plate Shear Walls

The AISC Seismic Provisions and CSA S-16 Standard require a minimum moment of inertia for the vertical boundary elements (VBEs) in steel plate shear walls (SPSWs) to avoid undesirable VBE behaviors. The equation limiting VBE flexibility has been derived from a flexibility factor, ωt, developed in plate girder theory and the limit on VBE flexibility has been empirically specified based on previo...

Vertical Migration of Heterorhabditis bacteriophora and H. heliothidis (Nematoda: Heterorhabditidae) in Sandy Loam Soil.

The entomogenous nematodes Heterorhabditis bacteriophora Poinar and H. heliothidis (Khan, Brooks, and Hirschmann) and their associated bacterium Xenorhabdus luminescens (Poinar and Thomas) have been tested against a humher of insect pests with some encouraging results (11). Simons (14) obtained 90% control of tile black vine weevil, Otiorhynchus sulcatus Fab., after applying Heterorhabditis sp....

Vertical Distribution of Plant-parasitic Nematodes in Sandy Soil under Soybean.

Vertical distribution of five plant-parasitic nematodes was examined in two north Florida soybean fields in 1987 and 1988. Soil samples were collected from 0-15 cm, 15-30 cm, and 30-45 cm deep at each site. Soil at the three depths consisted of approximately 96% sand. More than 50% of Belonolaimus longicaudatus population densities occurred in the upper 15-cm soil layer at planting, but the spe...

Impact of gasoline contamination on mechanical behavior of sandy clay soil

Oil leakage causes soil contamination and induces changes in the physical and mechanical properties of soils. In areas contaminated with oil products such as gasoline, the implementation of civilian operations requires determination and prediction of soil behavior in the existing conditions. In this research work, the effect of oil contamination by gasoline obtained from the National Oil Compan...
